Cutting Board – Everything 6

The cutting board is a “rough” blog post of a piece of information that was important to the sermon for sunday but had to be cut to preserve the overall flow of the message.

Here is a section that was cut from the sermon “Everything 6”

It’s not just “what you believe” about the Bible that dictates what it is saying.

See I believe that a Filet mignon is better than a sirloin – My dad would say that is just what you believe. He doesn’t like Filets, I don’t know what is wrong with him but he would rather have a sirloin any day of the week.

It’s ok to have different beliefs about which steak is the best.

I believe that “such and such” will win the super bowl this year – You may say “Thats just what you believe”

and you would be correct to say so. Because it is ok to have different beliefs about who will win the game tonight.

If I was to say that the audience this morning is sitting down… This is not a belief… its a fact. It is what actually is.

If I was to say the lights are on in this room… that is also not a belief it is a fact. The lights are on.

Peter is saying… the Bible is not based on what a group of people just decided to believe (“a filet is better than a sirloin”.) And Peter is saying that what you choose to believe about the Bible doesn’t have any bearing on what the Scriptures say.

For the Scriptures are statements of fact.

Facts that have come from God..

end of discussion.

“Knowing this that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
