Stupid

Yep that is quite the word to start with isn’t it?

Stupid.

But it is exactly what we need to hear at the very start, but maybe I can put it into a question form for you…

Do you want to be stupid?

I hope the answer to that is no…

I know I do not want to be stupid, but sometimes I am stupid. I do stupid things. I say stupid things…

and I would bet…

you do stupid things from time to time too.

So you and I are the same in that regard.

However, we are “the most stupid” when we hate those who call us out on something we are doing wrong.  When they take the time to say “the path you are currently on is not a good one” and we choose to ignore what they are saying or run from it.

It’s when people tell us our attitude is bad.

or

we shouldn’t drink as much as we have been drinking. (Yes I am talking about alcohol)

or

we shouldn’t flirt with that person.

or

we should watch our language.

or

we should not allow life to get in the way of going to church

or

we should be careful how much we hang around certain people and certain environments

or

(you fill in the blank)

We are “the most stupid” when people that love and care for us rebuke us for a sin that is in our lives and we not only keep doing the wrong thing but we also make sure they are cut from our lives because we hate them for what they have said to us because its not what we want to hear…

the Bible Says we are stupid when we do that.

“he who hates reproof is stupid.” Proverbs 12:1b

It is never fun when other people call us out on things – where we should have been more disciplined and should have never gotten involved with them but we did.  When we are called out because what we are doing is wrong – all the while knowing it is the wrong way to live – knowing it is the wrong path to take.

We basically hate those people because thats the only thing we can do… after all we already know the way we are living is wrong, we just don’t want anyone to point it out.

That is stupid…

and God doesn’t want you to live that way.

Jesus’ call is to live a disciplined life.  Not that doing what is right saves you but if you have accepted Christ as your Savior he expects his disciples to live a disciplined life based on the scriptures.

To be disciplined means we say no to what the Bible tells us to say no to..

“Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

“Do not be haughty in mind…” Romans 12:16b

“Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them” Proverbs 24:1

“Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine or with gluttonous eaters of meat” Proverbs 23:20

Do not be embittered against your wife – Colossians 3:19

Do not think like a child – 1 Corinthians 14:20

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows; this he will also reap”- Galatians 6:7

“Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.” Ecclesiastes 7:9

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion.” Ephesians 5:18a

“Do not” etc…

To be a person of discipline in the christian life there are a lot of things you have to discipline yourself not to do and there are things you have to discipline yourself to do.

Such as…

Love

Show grace

Remain faithful to living the life Christ wants you to live

Spend time with God

Witness

Serve others

Keep your commitments you have made before God and his people.

Worship God.

Living a disciplined life is when we choose to love controlling what we do according to the Bible more than we love “just doing what we want to do”

When we live a disciplined life it shows that we not only love Jesus but we love the knowledge and wisdom that comes from living life correctly…

the way he wants us too.

“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is…

stupid.” Proverbs 12:1

Which way are you living?
