October Music 2019

Yes, I know this post is early, but there are a few reasons for posting it on September 18th.

  1. A friend of mine posted to my page on facebook asking “where is the October Music countdown ‘whatever that is'”. Though he misspelled October and Music (who am I to judge right? But I caught it which is a achievement), and though for the last 13 years I have had a post on this blog about the October Music playlist – complete by the way with a list of songs – (obviously he is not a reader of this blog but who blames him right?) so he should know what it is… I decided to post early for him. At least that is one of the reasons.
  2. I have purchased a few new tunes… One I bought back in January. “The Great Pumpkin Sound Track” which I have listened to in short samples recently. I am looking forward to listening to the whole album. Another one is “I know a Ghost” by David Crowder, though I have listened to other songs on this album, I am looking forward to the 8 I haven’t because they fit the October Music criteria. Finally, as in yesterday, I bought “The Devil is a Liar” from the We Are Messengers “Honest EP”. Looking forward to listening to that one as well.
  3. I used a “Ghost” from my Charlie Brown outside October display on Sunday as an illustration in a sermon.
  4. I accidentally played a Thanksgiving song today… but that is a playlist post for another day.
  5. It’s hot and I’m ready for cooler weather and some rain.
  6. Went to the DMV yesterday and they were already decorated for fall.

So for these reasons I am posting about October Music Early this year. That said – here we go with the rest of the post…

October Music begins each year on “October Eve” (September 30th) as soon as our eyes open.  With the exception of Sundays, it is the only music that we play in our house for the whole month. October music (in case you do not know) is a mix of fun and biblical music to aid in our celebration of this great month and fall season.

Yes, fun music such as – “October” (U2) – “Monster Mash” – Carman’s “No Monster’s Song” – “The Adam’s Family” – “Sitin’ Up with the Dead” (Ray Stevens), “The Great Pumpkin Waltz” and “Ghostbusters” to name a few…

And Biblical tunes that express the battle we are engaged in with darkness and celebrates the victory we have in Christ.  Tunes such as Shane and Shane’s “Embracing Accusations” – Keith Green’s “Dear John Letter to the Devil” – Gungor’s “The Fall” – Carman’s “Champion” – John mark McMillan’s “Skeleton Bones” – Toby Mac’s “Somebody’s Watching” and Jars of Clay’s “Good Monsters”.

October Music now has 298 songs and is a delight to listen to… a reminder that yes there are evil things in this world but we have the victory in Christ over anything scary or demonic.

For us it’s a great way to start the holiday season… for right after October music ends Thanksgiving music begins…

That said – here is a brief list of what we call October music, we only play these during the month of October they are banned by law the rest of the year…
